It seems to happen when the crisp autumn air arrives. A little tickle in the back of your throat turns into a hacking cough over night. Your ribs ache, your head pounds and you exhaust all the tea and honey in the house. Well, I feel your pain. I’ve been sick for over a month now. Yes a MONTH. I started with the scratchy throat and gargled salt water, which helped a alleviate my soar throat but it didn’t stop the coughing onslaught. After two weeks of relentless coughing, the doctor told me that I had a post viral bronchial irritation. If I had this irritation on a daily basis it would be known as asthma. He mentioned that I probably had a virus and the antibodies are hanging out in my lungs and that is causing my cough. I was prescribed an inhaler, something which I’ve never had before. The doctor had me use the inhaler in the office just to make sure I knew what to do. Shake, exhale, put inhaler to my lips and inhale while pushing the button to spray. Pretty easy. So, two puffs a day for two weeks. I wish.
The Saturday following the doctor’s appointment, my husband and I flew down to Los Angeles. We spent a week in and around LA. We had a great time with family and friends, but I awoke Friday after Thanksgiving with a runny nose. Of course this was our day to drive to Vegas. My folks, J and I packed up the car and off we went. Combine my post viral bronchial irritation with a running nose and you get one miserable being. My pockets were stuffed with tissues and medicine. I tried to make the best of the trip and fulfilled my photograph duties with Poperazzi at the Suncoast on Friday night. However, after three nights in Vegas and a total of 10 days away I wanted the comforts of my home. I wanted to wrap up in a blanket, with a hot cup of tea, a box of tissues on the coffee table and nestle into the couch to watch the finale of the Sing Off On Demand in my pajamas.
So I changed my ticket and came home. Now home, I’m trying to recover. Lots of sleep, a new box of tissues and of course I watched the Sing Off finale – Congrats Pentatonix. If you have any family remedies that work for you to kick a cold, please share – I know I’m not the only one that will benefit.
Bah. Sorry you’re ill my dear. That really blows. honey, tea, lemon, garlic, hot peppers, ginger… repeat.
Yes, it literally blows. My nose has seen better days. Drinking tea with honey, now. Hope to get through this cold before the new year.
Hope you’re feeling better!
