Firsts

Today seemed like a perfect day for my first post of 2011. 1.11.11 or if you prefer the European styling 11.1.11. A whole lotta 1′s. Firsts if you will.

The first 11 days of the new year… I think I still had visions of grandeur in my head for how the year would start off. Ideas  implemented. Changes in effect. Holiday cards designed and mailed out. Paperwork filed  – possibly a clean desk or better yet a cleared kitchen table (my husband would love that).

Truth be told my ideas are still in my book, change still on the horizon, holiday cards are being rolled into Valentine’s Day cards and although some paperwork has been filed, the stacks in my office are higher because for a few moments the kitchen table was … wait for it… CLEAN. I know impressive, huh?  We actually invited our neighbor over for a proper home cooked-served-at-the-kitchen-table meal with a table  cloth and stemware. (And yes, the husband was happy).

My thoughts on this fresh, still crisp year have not been tarnished. I did get to the gym for not one but two workouts so far (yeah me!), after a 4 - 6 month hiatus;  I think this could be  setting me up for success this year.

Feel free to tell me your first triumph for the year in the comments. Yes, all the little things do count. For instance, finished all the holiday returns before the 30 day return policy ran out.

For those like me that didn’t quite have enough time to put the address list together, figure out what card you wanted or maybe just too crazy busy last month to take the family photo… there’s still hope.

No matter what time of the year, your friends and family members want to hear from you and want to see how the kids have grown (even if the “kid” is  a cat, dog or a bonsai tree – yes we have the latter). So send them your love with a Valentine’s day photo card.  2010 clients can use any of your images to create a custom card (starting at $75 for one free custom design and 25 folded cards) or pick out a templated card from my Tiny Prints or Minted stores (an image release fee will apply).  Drop me a note  today to let me know if you’re interested.

Didn’t have a 2010 session… well mark it off the to-do list and book a family session! For Valentine’s Day cards to be made and delivered in time, sessions need to be completed on or before Feb 3rd. Times are limited, so book today!

 I’m looking forward to reading your first triumphs in 2011 (please note them in the comments) as well as checking in with you throughout this year. Before long I know we’ll both have a list of accomplishments neither of us wrote down as resolutions (did you make resolutions this year?).

Here’s to a year filled with lots of finished to-do lists and gold stars. :)

Love this post. My main resolution is to get fit! I’m excited about it for a change, and already going for regular walks and hikes.

Happiest of Holidays {Gift for You}

With the spirit of giving in the air, it only seems fitting for me to give a little to you. So my gift is the textures of Italy. I took many pictures while traveling through Rome, Florence and Venice. But one thing I noticed was the peeling paint, the stained wood of window frames, the pitted sidings and the rusty bits on doors, walls and most everywhere. In a past post I showed you another fun example of how I use textures. If you have Photoshop just drag the texture lay on top of the image you want to apply the texture. Then change the layer mode from Normal to Overlay and play with the opacity slider. If there is any area you don’t want to apply the texture… just grab your eraser and paint it off (or add a mask to the texture layer and paint it off).  Check out this tutorial for more detailed information.  Below is a sample of what you can would with some time and texture overlays. This is the Circus Maximus with three textures from the group. Can you figure out which ones I used?

So enjoy the textures. Play and share your creations by leaving a link to the image in the comments.  Can’t wait to see what you come up with. Click the collage below and it will open up a gallery where you can download your favorites and start creating.

Photo Booth Fun – Nextspace Holiday Party {Santa Cruz}

The Santa Cuz Nextspacers hosted an outstanding  Holiday Happy Hour party, full of joy, laughter and lots of kids running about. I trekked down the highway in the pouring rain and billowing fog on highway 17, to set up for another fantastic photo booth.  Iris, the COO of Nextspace Santa Cruz and her daughter took full advantage of the props, while the couples made good use of the fresh mistletoe.

Check out the gallery and see how Nextspacers like to party. Photo Booth Nextspace Santa CruzPhoto Booth Nextspace Santa Cruz

Just a note to let you know the event gallery will be up until year end and you can download your favorite images for FREE (yes, a little holiday charity from Shelly :). The downloads are sized to be web only, so if you want to print out your fun pic and posted it on your wall, refrigerator, bulletin board, send a copy to mom, black mail your co-worker… then hit the buy button for a quality printed image delivered to where-ever you choose.

Thank you to everyone who came out, stopped by and said hello. It was so great to see familiar faces and meet new friends. Can’t wait for the next Nextspace gathering.  Happy Everything from Waldman Photography!

Photo Booth Fun – Nextspace Holiday Party {San Francisco, Ca}

NextSpace Photo Booth

If you are a solo proprietor or maybe have one or two people that you share the workload burden with, it’s likely that a holiday party it’s in the cards. So Nextspace had a brilliant idea, let’s invite small businesses together and share the holiday joy together in a potluck fashion. Rebecca Brian, co-founder of Nextspace San Francisco, asked for Waldman Photography to join in the festive spirit. With reindeer antlers, Santa hats and a few other fun props, I inched my way over puddled streets and  through bumper to bumper traffic to set up a joyous, open concept (no pipe and drape here), laugh-to-your-belly-hurts clickin’ station.

The orange couch allow for people to be comfortable and for others to couch dive into photos. As you can see above I couldn’t resist trying on the hats and snapping a few frames. The images from the evening can be viewed by clicking here.

I hope everyone finds a holiday party or two to celebrate the season. Cheers!

Sneak Peek: Zupata Family {Berkeley Rose Garden}

What a beautiful day with three fun gals. When talking with Katherine about the up coming session with her and her two girls, she mentioned to me that she owns Flowerland Nursery on Solano Avenue in Albany. Of course I knew we needed to find a scenic location where the family could feel at home, so the perfect location … Berkeley Rose Garden. The late afternoon sun provided a warm glow to our cheerful outing. There was lots of smiles, laughing and hugs.  Thank you, for a wonderful afternoon playing in the rose garden. I enjoyed hearing your stories and look forward to my next visit at Flowerland Nursery.
